Why I Care.
I saw an elderly couple walking by the other day.
The old man had his smiling wife’s hand in his right, and an ice cream cone clutched in his left.
I couldn’t help but grin as I passed them, though my smile faded a bit as they walked off toward the sunset.
And as they disappeared into that golden hour, on what may be among their last days together, I really started to believe that’s what life is all about: Finding someone who can choose you, and keep choosing you.
Through time, through imperfection, through pain and pleasure, through error and solution. And years later, still being chosen, and choosing in return. That must be a wondrous thing.
Come morning, they might not even be here.
But regardless, they watched the sunset, hand in hand, unbothered by the long dark that would inevitably follow.
Perhaps the sun wasn’t setting on them. Perhaps it was kneeling towards something brighter than itself.
Something that burned so bright for so long, that it no longer fears that long dark.
I shrugged, and continued my walk.
But that moment stayed with me. It reminded me of what this life is really about: connection, safety, and dignity in the final chapters. I want to help make sure that no one spends their last years isolated, or confused.
That’s what All-Ma is about. Not just a tool. A presence. A partner in the room.
